If your PS3™ system software version is 4.81 (or later), you do not need to perform this update.
After a short delay, I have put together another guide about installing custom firmwares on your PSP.
For those of you that don’t know, custom firmwares allow you to run homebrew applications while keeping the benefits of the original Sony firmware.
So far the only custom firmware (and the most popular one) is 3.80M33, that was released by Dark_Alex and Team M33 earlier this week.

For those of you who are new to the concept of hacked PSPs, custom firmware might not sound so familiar. Homebrew is software developed by the user community. You can try out the Network Update out right after you install 3.80M33, because there is already a patch waiting for you. i tried to do install 3.90 CFW on my psp 3.80 OFW and i followed all the directions on the readme and when i try to start up the upgrader for 3.90 m33 it says game could not be started. i have a question but first heres the background i have a 3.80OE i think it is and i aint used my psp in aaaaaages, im going away for a few days and want to get my PSP out to play some of my homebrew emulators etc and my question is...how would i go about updating to this new firmware and would it be worth it? 3.80 M33 is not ideal for PHAT users to upgrade to as of now, since no support for 1.50 kernel homebrew exists (will come later).
